Houston's climate reflects the location near the Gulf of Mexico: There are mild winters and hot, humid summers. Temperatures rarely go below freezing. Spring is warm and slightly humid, but comfortable for most people. It starts early, giving flowers an extra-long blooming season. Summer is hot and uncomfortably humid.

The heaviest rainfall occurs in late summer and in December. Showers can move in rapidly from the Gulf at any time of year, but they usually move on just as quickly.
